Real Weddings | Em-Renke and Istvan | July 2008

I absolutely LOVE this wedding! It makes me want to buy rolls of vintage lace and put flowers in my hair. Which just by the by, is something I've been wanting to do for a while, but I tend to look more 'fell into a rose bush and hurt myself' and less 'fresh bloom was tucked in hair by Gerard Butler look-alike whilst looking all minxy/pretty (me, not him. Although I'm sure Gerry could look minxy)'. Anyhoodle...
All the details, the different pinks, and textures, and the vintage touches make for such a beautiful day...it's just so pretty!
And just to add a bit of extra loveliness to this post...I do believe Em-Renke and Istvan are expecting their first wee bairn in just a few weeks. Congratulations!

Oh Tell Me The Truth About Love

Some say love's a little boy,
And some say it's a bird,
Some say it makes the world go around,
Some say that's absurd,
And when I asked the man next-door,
Who looked as if he knew,
His wife got very cross indeed,
And said it wouldn't do.

Does it look like a pair of pyjamas,
Or the ham in a temperance hotel?
Does its odour remind one of llamas,
Or has it a comforting smell?
Is it prickly to touch as a hedge is,
Or soft as eiderdown fluff?
Is it sharp or quite smooth at the edges?
O tell me the truth about love.

Our history books refer to it
In cryptic little notes,
It's quite a common topic on
The Transatlantic boats;
I've found the subject mentioned in
Accounts of suicides,
And even seen it scribbled on
The backs of railway guides.

Does it howl like a hungry Alsatian,
Or boom like a military band?
Could one give a first-rate imitation
On a saw or a Steinway Grand?
Is its singing at parties a riot?
Does it only like Classical stuff?
Will it stop when one wants to be quiet?
O tell me the truth about love.

I looked inside the summer-house;
It wasn't over there;
I tried the Thames at Maidenhead,
And Brighton's bracing air.
I don't know what the blackbird sang,
Or what the tulip said;
But it wasn't in the chicken-run,
Or underneath the bed.

Can it pull extraordinary faces?
Is it usually sick on a swing?
Does it spend all its time at the races,
or fiddling with pieces of string?
Has it views of its own about money?
Does it think Patriotism enough?
Are its stories vulgar but funny?
O tell me the truth about love.

When it comes, will it come without warning
Just as I'm picking my nose?
Will it knock on my door in the morning,
Or tread in the bus on my toes?
Will it come like a change in the weather?
Will its greeting be courteous or rough?
Will it alter my life altogether?
O tell me the truth about love.

Marie Claire September 2009

A conversation within my mind...
Left side - Oh SO vivid! All the colours! Peaches and yellows, reds and blues and oranges, purples and pinks!
Right side - If you tried this you'd look like a clown slash homeless person slash farmer.
Left side - Not if I dressed exactly like this!
Right side - Sliiightly out of your budget...
Left side - But all the colours! And the textures!
Right side - All of your clothes are variations on neutrals, wearing your navy flats is an exciting day for you.
Left side - Maybe I need to go to Mexico...
Right side - Yeah. That's what's missing...

Flowers in my house this week...

Flowers make me happy. Which is just as well really. Wouldn't do to have a florist grumbling about her flowers would it? As amusing as it would be. So I'm thinking we should make this a regular post too, you know, because all my other regular posts have been so er, regular *cough*. But heck, I have loads of flowers lying about (in water of COURSE), so why not share the love!? And on such a rainy day, if you get really close to them, and drink in all their colour and field-like smell, it might just feel like you're lying in a warm sunny paddock filled with happy poppies somewhere in continental Europe. And the best part? You won't look weird at all.

Doltone House wedding expo

Yep. That's where I was today, Doltone House, wedding central, making giant tissue puffs (Martha Stewart says, 'I can make 10 in 2 minutes!' I say 'WHAT WAS I THINKING?!'), being all efficient like with the glass cleaner, and fending off hungry onlookers. The cakes smelt yummy. Very yummy.

Now I'm off to scrub the studio floor clean from all the foliage I've stamped into it the past few (mayhem-ic) days. Good times.

A non post post

Sparkle Cupcakery 2009

Am off to style up a couple of tables for the Doltone House expo and have yet to perform my obligatory stress check, so have decided posting shall be postponed (geddit?!) until this afternoon. And don't worry, the Friday (because it's almost the weekend) post is still a-coming. It shall be full of tops ideas and exciting new products. As always. Because I totally know what I'm talking about...

Enjoy your Monday morning!

Fun weekend music

I heart Zooey Deschanel. Interesting piece of trivia. Her and that chicky from Bones are sisters. True story. I know. Hard hitting journalism at it's best.

I'm pretty sure if we met or were introduced through mutual friends (there has to someone somewhere THINK woman THINK!), we'd become besties. And not only do I love her in movies (she played a part in the great brunette decision of '09), but apparently she's a smarty pants in the region of music too. And this is no slashie combo, heck no! As I am not musical in what some would call a "good" way, all I can tell you about this cd is that it makes me happy, relax-y, chillax-y, and continues to inspire in me a pining for previous generations.

Listen to it while enjoying the mild(er) breezes this weekend whilst you stroll gaily about your sunshine filled boudoir*. Or whilst working. Either or.

*Interestingly (again!), this cd also makes me snoozy, toasty and snuggly when it's dark and grey and rainy outside. A multi seasonal cd...I think SO!

Spring is coming!

Let's go hang out in a field of pomegranates!

oh my deer...are these not perhaps the most beautiful things you've ever seen? Answer - yes.

I'm way past tired. Whoever decided flower markets should be so flipping early should be shot. Or just made to go. Every morning. But I love it. I do :) So in place of words that actually make sense, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. How freaky would it be if they actually did...

Little Jane St lovelies...

When I first started peering apprehensively into the blogging world, one of my favourite and loveliest discoveries was Little Jane St, and more importantly, the lovely Alarna (of Little Jane St. But you probably got that). 'So many beautiful crafty things!' I thought to myself. 'So MANY beautiful crafty things, in fact, that there must be a flaw here somewhere...' I incorporated my shifty eyes into this thought process, to add some intrigue. And it seems there is. All the handmade pretties (plus Alarna, she's kind of vital to this whole thing), reside in sunny Queensland. Good thing a while ago some guy/girl invented post offices. And post boxes. And stamps come to think of it...

Send her an email, give her a call. If you have her mobile you could text. Or even send a picture message, just for funsies. But make sure you say hi for me, and remember, I want the heart garland. *good one nic, subtle, don't think anyone picked up on that...*

Vogue - April 2008

behind the scenes

One of my favourite shoots from Vogue...it's part of my magazine montage (ooh alliteration) on my wall at home. Only thing is the picture with the giant blue tutu is stuck to the wall. Now. To campaign for one sided magazine story pages. It could work. And with such a catchy campaign title, success is practically guaranteed.

A conversation...

Paris 2005
Mon ami: Um, so you know photos are supposed to be focussed, right?
Moi: Pft. Yes.
Mon ami: And you know that these aren't, yes?
Moi: Pft. Yes.
Mon Ami: Did you forget to focus, but decide to love this photo anyway?
Moi: Er. Yes. Oh look! Another one!
Edinburgh Christmas markets 2005
Mon ami: Hmm. Yes, but do you actually know how to use a camera?
Moi: I can NOT believe you just asked me that.
Mon ami: They make my eyes hurt.
Moi: OOH there's one here too!

London...from the Eye
Mon ami: I'm leaving.
Moi: Pretty...

Cosy.

After our brief and shining (ha!) moment in the sun, it seem we're back to temperatures reminiscent of the cold snap of '64. Chilly times, those days. And so, being the kind and generous friend I am, I thought I'd share this woolly delight with you! Rey, at greybirdtextiles, is an incredibly talented Scot whom I've recently had the pleasure of meeting. She hails from the Highlands, and creates these toasty looking woolly bundles. This here is called 'Chilli Spice', which in itself is enough to get me wanting a roll or 5. She has loads of creations, all handmade, and unique in their colour, just waiting for you to fall in love with them and send off a request. Much like a mail order bride. But different.

So, as Rey is Scottish, and therefore one of my favourite people, I'm actually considering learning to knit, simply to use some of her amazing creations. You should too. We could have a knit off. Do you think we could have snacks?

Poster fun

I've never much liked oysters, or been one to enjoy shelfishy delights. I've also never understood how I'm supposed to visualise the world being my oyster, as I imagine it being rather damp and spongy. However. The concept is understood (don't worry, sometimes I get stuff), and I would like to share the sentiment with you. So GO! Enjoy, create, delight in the details, smile at people (but not in a creepy way), disregard your hayfever and stop to sniff the flowers! And if it does begin to smell a little salty and feel a little soggy, perhaps you're taking this a little to literally.

Ad's that make me want to buy their stuff...

Because:
a) I would like to be pretty, and use said prettiness to help in everyday tasks. Like lolling about in beds of giant flowers to pass the time.
b) I would like to float through the sky in a raspberry pink dress holding on to some giant lolly coloured balloons, um, and have someone whisper cherie to me, and
3) I would like to look like this when I wake up. And all I need to achieve this is my Chloe perfume, right Anja?

ps - at the markets yesterday morning, one of the growers kept calling me Bella which made me feel very special and pretty and carefree (hard to achieve at 5am). Except it turned out he thought I was from Bella flowers. Er. No. Rubyandjoy. But thanks...
